EXETER OFFICE REFURBISHMENT SPECIALIST MMAP DESIGN GIVES TOP TIPS FOR REFURBISHMENT & DDA PRESENTATION

MMAP Design Ltd is Devon & Exeter’s most dynamic office design & interiors  company. We are experts in office refurbishment & fit-out projects. We have a wealth of experience in the design of office space, we have a dependable team to complete your project on time & on budget.

MMAP Design Ltd continues to present exciting & dynamic fit-out & refurbishment project work at very competitive pricing. For this news letter we thought we would try to help those business's that are moving & relocating with some TOP TIPS to move the project along smoothly.

TOP TIP ONE – DO YOU REALLY NEED TO MOVE?

Moving can be very disruptive to your business even when managed professionally. A workplace appraisal of your current space may be able to find ways to improve your current environment without the need to move at all. If 20% of workstations are empty, maybe consider hot-desking, do you have lots of archive storage, could that be moved off site instead of every one & everything. Would a serviced office fill your needs temporarily?

TOP TIP TWO – TRYING TO DO EVERYTHING YOURSELF?

We all have our day’s jobs to do. These projects are massively time consuming weather you have experience at it or not. Chasing any number of suppliers, checking works on site, ordering material etc can take huge chunks of time…..a professional in this field will take that burden off you, take responsibility for the project, plan it & deliver it with less hassle for you.

TOP TIP THREE - CHOOSE THE RIGHT PARTNER...

Try to employ a firm that can both design & build your project. One point of contact at all times is a definite benefit & won’t pass the buck. Traditionally an architect will charge you to do the design work & to produce a specification then builders will tender for the works. A firm that does both can reduce costs & time by up to 40%.

Ask for references, look at completed projects & talk to previous clients if you can.  A little bit of investigation at this point could save time & money later on.

TOP TIP FOUR – THE IMPORTANCE OF FURNITURE....

Tables & chairs…easy isn’t it? Well, the main functional asset of your interior is your office furniture. You sit on it & at it most of your working day so its got to be right.

Is it laid out correctly; are the workstations & the seating appropriate in quality & function for the purpose; are your people & departments positioned correctly; is it flexible; does it need to be; do you have the correct storage; is the visual or sound privacy being considered….many points to consider.

Make sure your refurbishment partner knows the functional needs of your company & is up to date on the latest industry developments.

TOP TIP FIVE – IMAGE & INSPIRATION....

Does your current or will your new office encourage the right work culture & inspire people to fulfill their potential; does it give the right impression to employees & visitors….what does it say about you.

TOP TIP SIX – ECONOMISE BUT DON’T COMPROMISE....

The Health and Safety Executive said employees who had a work-related back condition took an average of 19 days off work. British firms are losing 4.9 million days every year. The cost of back pain to the NHS, business and the economy, because of treatment and lost productivity, is £5 billion a year.
This is clearly a problem. Ergonomics is clearly a very important factor in office design. Buying the cheapest chair or desk not only sends out the wrong signals to your employee about perceived value of them to the company, but could also cost you money too….spend a little more in key areas can have a dramatic effect on productivity…reverse the heirachy!

FINAL TOP TIP – DDA....

YOUR CHOSEN INTERIORS COMPANY SHOULD BE WELL BRIEFED ON THIS AREA…..The Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) 1995 aims to end the discrimination that many disabled people face. This Act has been significantly extended, including by the Disability Discrimination Act 2005. It now gives disabled people rights in the areas of:

• employment
• education
• access to goods, facilities and services, including larger private clubs and transport services
• buying or renting land or property, including making it easier for disabled people to rent property and for tenants to make disability-related adaptations
• functions of public bodies, for example issuing of licenses
